After coaching high school football for 13 years, Brooks Coatney was ready for a career change. When he was looking for a franchise opportunity, though, he didn’t consider education. That is, until he and his wife, Amie, started to look for childcare for their three children and found The Goddard School. They were so impressed by The Goddard School’s quality of care that they decided to open a School in Fayetteville, currently the only Goddard School location in Arkansas.
Brooks and Amie work to make sure every family enjoys a warm, positive experience. “We strive to provide the highest quality program for each child,” Brooks says. “Our play-based F.L.EX.® Learning Program ensures that we meet high standards specific to early learning, development and care.”
The F.L.EX.® Learning Program (Fun Learning Experience) is grounded in research on how children learn best: children experience the deepest, most genuine learning when they are having fun. It’s designed to help build each child’s emotional, academic, social, creative and physical skills – including 21st century skills such as communication, collaboration, creativity and critical thinking – to provide a well-rounded experience and help each one become school-ready, career-ready and life-ready.
21st century skills also tie in directly with STEAM learning (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics). Introducing these subjects early on helps promote children’s natural curiosity in them, increasing the chance that children will pursue STEAM-related careers later on in life.
“Supporting STEAM learning at the preschool level involves identifying activities children naturally do for opportunities to further guide them,” says Brooks. “When children solve puzzles or play with blocks, they create pathways in their brains that help with more advanced STEAM skills later on.”
Safety Is Our Top Priority
Another important aspect of The Goddard School located in Fayetteville is the importance of safety at the School. “We consider the children’s health and safety in all we do,” Brooks says. “From every detail of our classroom and playground design to our high standards of cleanliness, we’ve tried to think of everything.”
Brooks, Amie, the faculty and the education director are also committed to open and daily communication, informing parents about their children’s daily care, activities and accomplishments, which helps to fortify the home/school connection. To this end, the School offers regularly scheduled conferences throughout the year to discuss progress and behaviors with parents. The teachers provide tips and insights to guide parents through various learning and developmental milestones.
