I Have This Friend…

When I think of my friends, I think about Joe Cocker’s version of the song, “With a Little Help From My Friends.” I take my friendships seriously and trust these ladies with personal insight into my life and the life of my family. Therefore, I take with much seriousness the friendship and insight they entrust to me. These ladies are dealing with some heavy life issues and I am continuously inspired by how strong they are.
I have this friend…
She’s fighting for women’s healthcare.
She’s running her own business.
She’s struggling with fertility.
She’s starting the adoption process.
She’s fighting cancer.
She’s beating cancer.
She’s dealing with MS.
She’s undergoing a double mastectomy.
She’s trying to get pregnant.
She’s debating whether or not she wants kids.
I have this friend who breastfed for a year.
I have this friend who didn’t breastfeed.
I have this friend who is planning her first wedding.
I have this friend who recently went through a divorce.
I have this friend who is dating online.
We as women need to band together, now more than ever. We’ve had a long journey getting to where we are today with equal rights, fighting for equal pay, having an important voice on major issues and we still have a long way to go. Let’s lift each other up. Let’s respect each other’s situations, experiences and outlooks. On politics, on religious beliefs, on our bodies, on our family decisions, and on our parenting choices.
I have this friend who gave birth to a baby she didn’t keep.
I have this friend who lost her newborn.

I have this friend who had an abortion.

I have this friend who is pro-life.
I have this friend who is pro-choice.
I have this friend…
The definition of feminism, according to Urban Dictionary, is the belief that women are and should be treated as potential intellectual equals and social equals to men. I would actually argue, however, that equality of sexes is on uneven footing. I believe that women are uniquely built to deal with issues much different and more complicated than the other sex. Because of this, we should practice extra sensitivity, empathy and support to our fellow women. Lord knows we could all use a little help from our friends.
