2019 Guide to Women’s Health

Pap smears, breast exams, weird odors, intercourse discomfort, peezing, random hair growth, infertility, secondary infertility and the list goes on. Being female is fabulous. However, is it just us or does there seem to be an enormous list of things we have to stay aware and be mindful of physically (the question is rhetorical–the answer is clearly yes)?  Thankfully, Northwest Arkansas is FULL of some of the best medical professionals to ever come out of medical school. Why these doctors chose to take up residence in our small space in NWA is still a mystery to us when they had the world at their disposal, but we’re ever so glad they did. Thus, we’ve compiled a list of our tried and trues. The doctors we run to and ask the embarrassing questions, the ones we cry to and the ones we’ve become friends with in the process.

The Doctors

Kent A. Mason, M.D., F.A.C.O.G.

Dr. Mason completed his medical degree at the University of Arkansas College of Medicine in 1990, subsequently completing an Obstetrics & Gynecologic Surgery internship and residency in 1994 at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Program in Little Rock, AR. Dr. Mason is Board Certified in Obstetrics & Gynecologic Surgery.

Patient Testimonials

“I am an older lady who respects not being grouped in a category with all women my age. That seems to be the norm now days. God made each and everyone of us different. Dr Mason and I talked about this and I left there feeling that I had special attention for my medical needs. Thanks Dr. Mason!”

“Dr. Mason is so kind and makes me feel good about myself. I was happy to answer any questions and take as much time as needed. The staff was very efficient and friendly and I was very pleased with patient care. Great overall experience. Highly recommend Dr. Mason!”

“Always a pleasant atmosphere, friendly staff and Dr. Mason always takes the time to make sure all is good.”

Patient Testimonials

“Dr. Mason is a great gynecologist and she’s very respectful and nice and listens to your every need.”

“I wish I could go to Dr. Mason for ALL of my medical needs. She is so incredibly kind and she always remembers me (or seems to). 🙂 One thing she DOES remember is that I suffered intense, on-going trauma in my early 20’s. Her remembering is such a blessing because I don’t have to explain it year after year. She also does my exam differently so as to not cause as much pain. I have and would recommend Dr. Mason to anyone. She is truly gifted. “

“I just moved to Northwest Arkansas and Dr. Mason was my first try at a new woman’s wellness doctor. I can honestly say that she will be my ongoing woman’s wellness doctor as I love her bedside manner, professionalism, knowledge and kindness and feel that I can truly trust Dr. Mason.”

Darrin Cunningham D.O., F.A.C.O.O.G.

Dr. Cunningham completed his medical degree at Oklahoma State University College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1991, subsequently completing an Obstetrics & Gynecologic Surgery internship and residency in 1996 at Hillcrest Health Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Dr. Cunningham is Board Certified in Obstetrics & Gynecologic Surgery. In early 2018, Dr. Cunningham completed training in the use of the da Vinci Surgical System as a Console Surgeon.

“When I am not in the office taking care of my patients, in the hospital delivering babies or in the OR performing surgery, I am with my family. Since my son is a competitive swimmer, I became a swim referee to participate in the sport he loves. This keeps us busy most of the year. When we aren’t swimming, then we scuba dive as a family. We will become rescue divers this summer with a final goal of becoming Master Divers. Boating and sailing are other activities we like to participate in. We boat on Grand Lake in Oklahoma since my in-laws live there. This allows us time to spend with them as well. My wife and I hope to retire one day (not anytime soon) on a boat and cruise the coastal waterways. It seems that we are water people”.

Patient Testimonials

“As a new patient, you never know what to expect.
Everyone was very nice and professional.
Dr. Cunningham was patient and gentle. He educated me and answered all of my questions, regarding my health complaints. “

“I had an issue that Dr. Cunningham solved in a way that was nice and the front desk ladies were extremely friendly and helpful”.

“My mom had been using doctor Cunningham for many years, after myself going through many doctors that would not listen to what was really happening I am so glad my mom recommended him! He was great, listened to what I was feeling and in return really explained to me what was happening to me! If you are looking for a doctor that really cares I would Recommend

The office staff is friendly and efficient. Dr. Cunningham answers all questions and genuinely cares about his patients.”

Samantha Cunningham APRN, CNM, DNP

Samantha Corral received her bachelor’s degree in both Nursing and Spanish at the University of Arkansas in 2015. She continued on to complete her Masters in Nursing at Oregon Health & Science University in 2017 where she specialized in nurse-midwifery.

“As a former Razorback, I was eager to return home after completing my education in Oregon. However, I am happy to keep one foot in Portland as I pursue my Doctorate of Nursing Practice over the coming year! Portland instilled in me a deep love of well-crafted coffee and all things brunch. Fortunately, it also propelled my love of running to offset my foodie habits. I’ve completed several marathons and hope to tackle an ultra-marathon next.  As an APN and CNM, I strive to provide women’s health care services with a holistic approach while utilizing the best evidence available. I believe in providing continuous and compassionate care while acknowledging each individual’s unique life experiences. Whether you’re needing an annual exam, considering contraception options, or looking for a prenatal care provider, I would be thrilled to provide you care along the way!”

“I wanted a natural birth experience inside of a hospital setting and I am so happy I found Samantha for my delivery! Throughout my pregnancy she focused on what was best for me and not the traditional text book route. During my delivery, she was there the entire time coaching me and letting me know exactly what was going on and what to look forward to. I couldn’t have had a better birth experience with anyone else! My husband and I love Samantha. She’s a great midwife and a really cool person!”
