Dear New Mama or Mama-to-be,
I am sorry to tell you but gone are the days of full-faced makeup and a nice blowout. I genuinely like to spend time in my bathroom listening to music, spending time on my makeup and fixing my hair but when I welcomed my first son over 6 years ago, I realized that time was a distant memory that I had greatly taken for granted. My kids are a little older now, and I have glimpses of those times occasionally… but I am about to welcome my third son into the world and it’s time to go back to my original new-mom beauty arsenal.
So today, I am giving you complete permission to embrace the makeup-less face and top knot, but wanted to share a few of my favorite beauty must haves to get you through those first few days… uh, weeks… okay, years with your precious little bundle.
- Garnier Anti-Dark Circle Eye Roller. Just two swipes under your eyes with this bad boy and those black circles are (at least slightly) diminished. That’s not the only reason that I love this product. It feels cool when going on and instantly wakes up those sleepy eyes. And it contains caffeine, because as a new mom you cannot consume enough caffeine to be able to function like your former self, so you might as well slather it on your face too, right?
- Big Sexy Hair Volumizing Dry Shampoo. I have a deal with my hair dresser that no matter what I say or how much I beg, I am not allowed to (significantly) cut my hair while pregnant or for the first year postpartum. I will warn you, you will want to. That precious little babe will pull on your hair while nursing, spit up in your hair while burping, snot in your hair… and sometimes cry so much that you’ll want to pull all your hair out. This dry shampoo adds volume to your lifeless and dirty hair, smells GREAT, and after a quick spritz and brush through, you can quickly pull your mane back in that top knot so no one can see that crusty stuff on the ends.
- EOS Lip Balm. This is actually a new one for me. I got this lip balm as a Christmas gift and absolutely love it. The sweet mint is my go-to scent and will cover up that morning breath if you don’t have time to brush those pearly whites before your first nursing session. I also like the vanilla bean. It keeps your lips nice and moisturized for kissing those sweet baby cheeks (and your hubby). I have since bought several that I keep all over my house for easy access.
So there you have it. A few products you might want to pick up to throw in your hospital bag and have handy as soon as that little bundle arrives. And don’t worry, in a few years, you’ll be able to fully do your hair and makeup again, and then decide you can totally handle another baby… and, like me, you’ll end up right back here again.
Happy Beauty-ing, Mamas!
