As we gear up for a new year, I can’t help but look around and think of all of the things I want to accomplish in the upcoming 365 days…who I want to be. How do I get there? How do I make daily choices to become the me I want to be…the wife, mom, friend, sister, and daughter I want to be? It can snowball quickly…slow down!
Its so easy to become overwhelmed, and to come up with a long list of things to change about ourselves…which more times than not, is influenced by who others are, or who we think they are. That’s where we get stuck; when we compare ourselves to others and what they allow us to see. With social media so prevalent today, we are bombarded with the unachievable idea of leading picture perfect lives. Instead of looking to others’ lives and accomplishments and trying to become like them, take a look back on the previous year at yourself.
What are a few great things that you accomplished? How did you fail? What did you learn? Who did you help or show love to? Who are you to those around you?
When you take a look at who you really are right now, you are better able determine how to become a better version of yourself…not someone else.
I believe God made us all so unique, with different abilities, strengths, and weaknesses….like puzzle pieces. Start by listing out two strengths and two weaknesses, and then really dig in to how you can personally grow in those areas, and go from there. Start small, and you will eventually see big changes. The world needs you to be you, so be the best you you can be!
